County Hall in Your Earbuds: St. Johns Launches Three Official Podcasts and Radio Shows

St. Johns County launched a lineup of three official podcasts and radio programs on July 24, 2026, giving residents a free, on-demand way to follow local government — including next-day recaps of every Board of County Commissioners meeting where decisions on roads, parks, libraries, and stormwater get made. All three shows stream on the county's SJC Podcasts webpage, its YouTube channel, and major podcast platforms, with each also airing on a local radio station.

For anyone who can't make it to a commission meeting in the middle of a workday, that's the practical headline: the county is now bringing the business of county hall to your commute, your kitchen, and your earbuds.

The county says the effort is part of a broader push to increase transparency and encourage public participation. Digital Media Manager Matt Denny said the expanded lineup supports the county's Strategic Plan, which names "Community Trust" as a core priority — the idea being to meet residents where they already are rather than expecting them to come to a meeting room.

The three shows, and when to catch them

Each program is produced in a different format, so what you tune into depends on how deep you want to go.

All three are also available any time as audio podcasts on major streaming platforms, and County Conversations and Behind the SJCenes post as video on the county's YouTube channel. The SJC Report also streams live on the station's Facebook page.

Behind the SJCenes: the one to bookmark

Of the three, Behind the SJCenes is the most directly useful for keeping tabs on your local government. Produced with WSOS 103.9 St. Augustine Radio, it airs live the morning after the first and third Wednesday commission meetings and walks through what the Board actually decided — then adds a guest interview on a timely community topic. A recent episode, for example, featured the local tourism bureau discussing visitor trends.

County Conversations goes deep

The first four episodes of County Conversations are already posted, all featuring Public Works Director Greg Caldwell. The series works through the nuts and bolts of county infrastructure across four parts:

• Episode 1 — an overview of county infrastructure
• Episode 2 — roads, stormwater, and the Public Works dashboard
• Episode 3 — parks projects
• Episode 4 — fire stations, libraries, and other capital improvement projects

Produced with WFCF 88.5 Flagler College Radio, it's the longer-form option for residents who want detail on where their tax dollars are going.

Why this lands now

St. Johns County remains one of Florida's fastest-growing counties, and much of what shapes daily life here — new roads, park upgrades, fire and library capital projects — moves through the commission chamber on weekday mornings that most working families simply can't attend. Offering a same-week audio recap lowers that barrier considerably.

The rollout follows recent recognition for the county's Office of Public Affairs, which earned two awards from the Florida Municipal Communicators Association: an Outstanding Award in the Collaborative Marketing Campaign category for its Inside SJC video series, and a Governmental Entity Certificate of Excellence in Communications for the second year running.
