AdventHealth Opens Its First St. Johns County ER Today on State Road 207 in St. Augustine

AdventHealth's first emergency room in St. Johns County begins treating patients at 7 a.m. Tuesday, July 14, giving families across the fast-growing county a new 24/7 option for urgent care without a longer drive toward Jacksonville or Flagler. The 12-bed Treaty Oaks ER, at 1775 State Road 207 just east of Interstate 95 in St. Augustine, opened with a ribbon-cutting on July 10 and represents the health system's first foothold in a county it says it intends to keep building out for years.

The freestanding facility cost more than $20 million, according to statements from AdventHealth leaders reported by local media outlets. It is designed to handle emergencies on-site rather than referring patients elsewhere for basic diagnostics — a key detail for anyone weighing whether a nearby ER can actually help in a crisis.

What the new ER offers

Treaty Oaks ER is a full emergency department, not an urgent-care clinic. It includes a laboratory, X-ray equipment, ultrasound imaging and CT scanning on-site, and will be staffed by roughly 50 emergency medical professionals, according to medical director Dr. Daniel McDermott.

McDermott, an emergency physician, framed the facility's value in simple terms: it is another access point closer to home for time-sensitive emergencies, and being nearer to where people live improves the odds of a good outcome, he said in remarks reported by local news reports.

Why it matters for St. Johns County

St. Johns County has been one of Florida's fastest-growing counties, and emergency-care capacity has not always kept pace with new rooftops. The SR 207 corridor west of St. Augustine sits near the I-95 interchange that funnels traffic from a wide swath of the county, making the location a practical one for residents south and west of the city.

AdventHealth leaders described the opening as a starting point rather than a finish line. The company said its expansion into St. Johns mirrors a presence of more than 20 years in neighboring Flagler County, where it has invested in a hospital, a cancer treatment center and additional physicians.

A bigger buildout is coming

Treaty Oaks is one piece of a broader push. AdventHealth opened its first St. Johns County clinic in November 2025 at 1000 Plantation Island Drive in St. Augustine, bringing specialty physicians into the county, and it plans to break ground this year on a second freestanding emergency room at World Commerce Center — near the I-95 interchange at the World Golf Village area.

Statewide, AdventHealth operates 32 hospitals, nearly two dozen freestanding emergency rooms and hundreds of clinics — the network the company is now extending into St. Johns. Its arrival also comes as other systems expand locally, adding to the region's healthcare options as the population climbs.

For now, the practical takeaway for residents is straightforward: as of Tuesday morning, there is a new around-the-clock emergency room on the SR 207 corridor east of I-95, with more county investment on the way.
